A reinterpretation of a complex floor plan gives rise to renewed interiors, where layout, light, and boiserie interact to create a balance between contemporary functionality and classical memory.
A short walk from the historic center of Brescia, in the Borgo Trento district, this approximately 80 sqm apartment is located on the second floor of a 1970s building. The plan, irregular and marked by non-orthogonal walls, has been completely rethought to meet contemporary living needs: the new layout opens up circulation, improves functionality, and enhances natural light. Guiding the project is a “contemporary classic” language, in which the theme of boiserie becomes a key element: a continuous feature that runs through the spaces, unifying walls, doors, and furnishings, and shaping an identity that is both elegant and current, in dialogue with warm materials and color accents such as sage green and navy blue.
The living area is the heart of the home, now more spacious and luminous. The living room is organized around a custom-designed plasterboard feature wall that integrates a bookcase, workspace, and TV unit into a single architectural composition. The kitchen, open to the living area, is defined by a multifunctional central island that both separates and connects the different functions, while the structural pillar is highlighted as an element that articulates the space. The oak parquet flooring laid in a Hungarian herringbone pattern, reinterpreted in a larger format, reinforces the dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity.
The sleeping area develops along a corridor that is visually “regularized” through custom cabinetry that corrects its geometry. Here are the two bedrooms and the bathroom, compact yet carefully detailed, with continuous stone-effect porcelain surfaces and wooden furnishings that introduce a warm note. The master bedroom, characterized by sloping walls, is also made more orderly through a new partition that facilitates furniture arrangement.
Overall, the intervention transforms the constraints of the plan into opportunities, shaping fluid and coherent spaces where boiserie becomes the guiding thread of a refined balance between classical memory and contemporary sensibility.
